The Yiddish Sof-Vokh is organised by a group of volunteers from the Yiddish Cafe Trust, a non-profit making organisation with the UK charity number 1200053. The trust does not have an endowment of its own, and costs of holding each year’s Sof-Vokh (primarily catering, accommodation and room hire) are largely covered by the participants themselves through registration fees.
Your donations will enable us to keep prices down and to offer reduced rates via bursaries for young people and those on low incomes, making Yiddish culture accessible to everyone. We are grateful for all the generous contributions we receive and are happy to name bursaries in commemoration of dear departed friends and relatives. If you wish to do so, please specify the name of the person or people you wish to honour with your donation.
We are also always looking for other funding opportunities such as grants. If you are aware of opportunities for which our initiative might be eligible or are involved in a grant-giving organisation yourself, please contact us at trust@yiddishcafe.com.
Finally, we occasionally organise benefits to raise funds for our bursaries, such as the event with Michael Rosen in February 2024. If you would like to support our work via an event or merchandise sales, for example, please contact us. We appreciate any and all forms of support.
Here is a brief video clip from our February 2024 benefit event below. Michael Rosen was reading and chanting his classic children’s book We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, alternating with Tamara Micner’s rendition of the Yiddish translation by Helen Beer:
